ExCeL London’s Phase 3 expansion added 25,000 sq m of new event space to the east of the existing venue, supporting its position as one of Europe’s leading fully integrated conference and exhibition centres. The multi-million-pound development introduced a range of flexible, modern spaces, including new plenary rooms, adaptable meeting halls and purpose-built convention facilities designed to host large-scale global events. The expansion also includes a unique Formula E racetrack integration, with an indoor-to-outdoor track connection and an 18-metre-wide sliding glass façade allowing racing cars to enter the venue directly.
The Phase 3 expansion was a technically demanding project, combining large-scale venue construction with highly flexible event spaces and specialist operational requirements. The project included moveable wall systems, modular meeting spaces, elevated construction areas and infrastructure to support major conferences, exhibitions and live event use.As a high-profile public venue, the project required careful commissioning management, structured QAQC control and close coordination to ensure that building services were delivered, tested and completed in line with the venue’s operational demands.
Employed by SES Engineering Services Ltd, ENVIRO provided both MEP commissioning management and QAQC management support for the project. The team worked closely with SES and the wider project team to manage commissioning activity, support quality control processes and help maintain technical progress through to completion.ENVIRO’s approach focused on structured coordination, clear communication and hands-on project support, helping the team navigate the challenges of a complex expansion while maintaining focus on successful delivery.
The Phase 3 expansion added significant flexibility to ExCeL London’s event offering.New spaces include the International Convention Centre, modular meeting rooms such as the George V Rooms, Victoria Rooms and Connaught Rooms, and adaptable exhibition halls with moveable wall systems. These spaces can be configured for a wide range of uses, from smaller boardroom-style meetings to large-scale events with thousands of attendees. The expansion also added major structural scale to the venue, extending the facility to approximately 820 metres in length and incorporating 4,500 tonnes of steelwork at the eastern end of the campus.
ENVIRO supported SES Engineering Services Ltd through the commissioning and QAQC delivery of a prestigious venue expansion project.Despite the challenges of the project, ENVIRO helped provide the management, coordination and quality oversight needed to support completion. The successful delivery of the expanded event space is now reflected in its live use, providing a lasting result that ENVIRO and the wider project team can be proud of.
ENVIRO provides specialist commissioning management and validation support for complex construction projects, helping teams manage risk, maintain compliance and keep progress moving.
